The Bishop’s School seeks a dynamic teacher of computer science to support curricular innovation and efforts to expand the School’s STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math) program and curriculum. In addition to teaching within the computer science department, this faculty leader will teach self-motivated, creative students and collaborate with passionate colleagues in the STEAM disciplines and throughout the School.
This endowed faculty position will enhance an already robust faculty cohort by adding particular expertise in computer programming, wearable technologies, and software engineering. A background in design thinking, applied engineering and robotics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, and/or interdisciplinary program design would be considered highly desirable.
The position reports to the academic dean but also collaborates closely with with the Wu Tsai Endowed Chair in Science and the division heads to advance the School’s STEAM and interdisciplinary sciences program. The position is 12 months, comes with a highly competitive compensation and benefits package, and starts on August 1, 2018.
Essential Functions and Specific Duties
Coordinate, plan, organize and instruct up to four classes in computer science, robotics, and/or STEAM interdisciplinary curricula.
Collaborate and lead with other faculty and administrative groups meaningful school-wide discussions about the STEAM curriculum and the needs of a 21st century students.
Serve as instructional support for the School’s STEAM programs, resources and spaces.
Develop and manage external STEAM-related partnerships in San Diego.
Stay abreast of current trends and new approaches to STEAM instruction via professional development activities.
The optimal candidate will hold a master’s degree (M.A.) or higher and a combination of a minimum of 5 years teaching experience or equivalent industry experience. A strong interest in growing the middle and/or upper school robotics program (VEX and FIRST) would also be desirable.
