The Art Teacher for Grades 3 to 8 at St. Peter’s School is responsible for implementing an innovative art curriculum providing learning experiences in visual art, and supervising students in a positive climate that develops the talents of each student in art. Reviewing the scope and sequence of the Arts Program, working in conjunction with the other Arts Faculty to create interdisciplinary units, and sharing resources and developing unique and distinctive artistic opportunities for the St. Peter’s students are all priorities of this position.
While the primary responsibilities for this role will be teaching Grades 3 to 8 art classes, there are opportunities to be involved with art throughout the school. Working with our faculty to bring art into the classroom, developing partnerships for art education and showcasing the creative ability of all the students, will also be pursued.
St. Peter’s is a Preschool through Grade 8 coeducational, non-denomination independent day school of 200 students. We are located in Historic Philadelphia and partner with local artists, innovators, and researchers to enhance our students’ experience.
As a classroom leader, model and encourage standards of best instructional practice, including the use of technology. Teach a full course load and participate fully in the community
Utilizes inclusive repertoire of all types of art including literature, art history, artist studies, as well as genres and periods, which are appropriate for the age and development level of each class
Provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their creative ability and encourages students to show pride in their work and their school
Work closely with the Division Director to develop and manage the curriculum, including skills, content, and assessment, periodically review and revise course offerings and content
Plans and arranges school-wide Art Shows throughout the year
Oversee the participation of students in local an regional art competitions
Be attentive to students’ learning differences and coordinate with the Learning Support Team as needed
Provide academic leadership by fostering a vision of art that supports the mission of the school
Actively supports the school’s mission, philosophy and school policies
Performs other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s Degree in art education or related field and a minimum of 3+ years experience teaching middle school
Master’s degree is preferred
Knowledge of and practice in current art education and innovative approaches to teaching art
Ability to work as a member of a team
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to interact with students of all ages, parents, and co-workers
