Founded by two bold, visionary entrepreneurs in 1920–the same year that women won the right to vote–The Nightingale-Bamford School gives girls from diverse backgrounds a rigorous college preparatory education. The school is widely recognized as one of the top girls’ schools in the country. There are currently 604 students enrolled in the school (Lower School 225; Middle School 195 and Upper School 213). The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks a full-time ceramics teacher to begin in September 2018.
The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in art education or a Master’s of Fine Arts with a concentration in ceramics, experience in maintaining a ceramics studio and operating a low-fire kiln, a minimum of five years of classroom teaching and possess a passion for fostering the creative expression and championing the artistic endeavors of all students at every age level.
Responsibilities include teaching ceramics as part of a required art rotation in grades 5–8, plus elective courses in the Upper School, the ability to teach two sections of Lower School Art, and to work with the Lower School art teacher to develop a ceramics curriculum as part of the Lower School art program.
The candidate should be prepared to work collaboratively with the other members of the art department and to join us in redesigning the curriculum to reflect and reimagine a comprehensive K–12 curriculum that nurtures and encourages traditional craft skills as well as fine art in a contemporary context.
