Poughkeepsie Day School, the MidHudson’s leading independent PreK12 school, is looking for a dynamic instructor of French in the upper school. The successful candidate will be able to:
Collaborate with colleagues in and outside the world languages program to continue shaping that program and its goals, mainly in the high school (grades 9-12)
Adapt to and tailor teaching of the French language to a range of ages and language learning stages, including beginning and advanced levels, using resources beyond textbooks
Foster a love of acquiring the French language and an appreciation for the diversity of French peoples and cultures.
Devise a curriculum and evaluate students based on standards of language acquisition (e.g., ACTFL)
Develop opportunities for immersive experiences, including travel programs.
Communicate effectively with students, and parents
While the job is conceived of as part time, there is an opportunity to expand the position over time depending on the candidate’s skills and desires and the school’s needs.
B.A. required. M.A. preferred. Speak and write fluently in French.
