Convent of the Sacred Heart is seeking a Lower/Middle School Associate Librarian who enjoys working with children to join our active, enthusiastic team of librarians for a 2-year appointment beginning late August 2018.
Prepare curricular units under the supervision of the librarian and mentorship program teacher:
Write lesson plans
Prepare class materials
Collection development for unit
Formal evaluation of these units is done by school administration
Assist with 17 pre-kindergarten to fourth-grade library classes weekly and fifth, sixth, and seventh-grade library classes as needed.
Assistance includes checkout/in of library materials
Preparation of materials for instruction
Student and Library Supervision
Assist with library supervision of students after school and during Middle School lunch and Lower School break
Prepare displays, bulletin boards, and other promotional materials
Help to maintain an attractive and orderly library
Associate is responsible for closing the library every school day at 5 pm
Administrative & Clerical Support:
Processing & Ordering
Process and help catalog library materials (books, DVDs, etc.) for collection
Maintain periodical collection
Maintain inventory of office and book processing supplies
Assist with birthday books program
Collection and Catalog Maintenance
Assist in keeping the online catalog current and discard materials as directed
Repair books and other materials
Assist in annual inventory and weeding of collection
Manage new patron import each fall and maintain patron records throughout the school year
Shelve books and periodicals, with the help of parent volunteers
Knowledge of and enthusiasm for reading and recommending books for young readers
Assist students and parents during Spring book fair
Assist students and faculty with use of laptops, iPads, and printers
Troubleshoot technology problems, with help of technology office
Working knowledge of GoogleDrive and Libguides
Working knowledge of Internet search techniques
Participate in library department meetings and lower school faculty meetings
Participate in faculty development days
The position reports daily to Lower School Librarian and Middle School Librarian
Annual formal evaluation by Library Department Head
Bachelors Degree required; MLS student or recent graduate preferred Experience working with children Passion for children’s and young adult literature Facility with technology
