The McGillis School, an established, independent K-8 school in Salt Lake City, Utah has an opening for a Director of Finance. The Director of Finance is an integral part of the senior leadership team and is responsible for managing the financial resources of The School. They report directly to the Head of School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Finance will:
Support the mission, vision, values, and purpose of The School, and support school
Develop and oversee financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets, protect confidential information, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Oversee school business functions, including: tuition billing and collection, accounts payable, contracting, payroll, human resources, accounting and reporting, regulatory reporting and compliance, and other business administration
Administer the annual budget and multi-year forecasting process to align with The School's goals and mission and maintain account records related to The School’s
Prepare and provide accurate financial reports to school leadership and the Board of
Participate in the development of school strategy, providing recommendations, financial analysis, projections, and other data to inform the
Collaborate with and assist the Head of School and the Board of Trustees in meeting fiduciary responsibilities.
Prepare for and oversee an annual financial audit performed by an independent auditing
Manage risk to protect assets and manage total school
In conjunction with Director of Operations, manage risk to ensure the safety of students, employees, and visitors in their use of the
Understand the culture and climate of the school and the wider educational
Manage, mentor, and develop direct reports, providing constructive and timely Model and foster high ethical standards, integrity, and respect for colleagues, parents, and students in the conduct of The School’s business.
Communicate with clarity to all staff and
Ensure that human resources policies and practices are clearly articulated, consistently applied, and conform to legal requirements.
Serve as administrative representative on the Budget and Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees.
Remain current with independent school trends and cultivate professional standards and development by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in local, regional, and national professional organizations.
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting or business with an accounting emphasis
5+ years of experience
Demonstrated leadership qualities – organizing people and processes
High ethical standards
Excellent oral and written communication skills
The ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and other school community members
Keen analytical skills and a detail-oriented work style
Proven success in a senior administrative role, preferably working with a board
MBA and/or CPA
This is a year-round, full-time, benefited, exempt position. Competitive salary dependent upon qualifications.
