THE POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Whitby School is committed to a secondary school counseling program that focuses on a best-fit practice to help each student find a high school based on their individual goals and interests. The Associate Director of Secondary Counseling and Upper School Admissions will proactively and enthusiastically represent Whitby School and its students to independent day and boarding schools. Additionally, the Associate Director of Secondary School Counseling and Upper School Admissions will work with the Director of Upper School Admissions to recruit, select, and enroll new students for Whitby School. Job responsibilities include:
Secondary School Counseling
Supporting the Director of Secondary School Counseling and Upper School Admissions with the management of the secondary school counseling program.
Helping students and their families through the secondary school selection process from start to finish.
Maintaining strong relationships with secondary schools on behalf of Whitby.
Ensuring that the Secondary School Counseling and Upper School Admissions Office is highly-organized with efficient systems in place to manage standardized testing, teacher recommendation process, student applications and student acceptance/matriculation data.
Providing ongoing regular and systematic communication with parents and students in grades 7 and 8.
Ongoing maintenance of the secondary school counseling database.
Collaborating with Advancement Office on follow up with recent alumni and parents.
Upper School Admissions:
Acting as the point person for incoming Upper School inquiries/prospects/applicants by phone, email and the school website.
Assisting with the acquisition of new students for the Upper School.
Follow up with families/schools regarding inquiries and applications.
Maintenance and organization of applicant files electronically.
Representation of the school at admissions events, giving tours and speaking with prospective families.
Ongoing maintenance of the admissions database.
Training and scheduling of student ambassadors for parent tours and admissions events.
Regularly pursuing opportunities for professional growth, including relevant conferences, and networking within the industry.
The Whitby School seeks an individual with strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills with to serve as its Associate Director of Secondary School Counseling and Upper School Admissions. Individuals who have at least 2 years’ experience in Secondary School Counseling and/or Admissions at competitive independent schools will be of particular interest. A bachelor’s degree is required. Enjoy cultivating and developing personal interactions with students, parents, faculty, prospective families and secondary school representatives.
Have strong communication skills as a speaker, writer and listener.
Demonstrate patience and support in working with students and parents.
Be a positive and knowledgeable ambassador for Whitby in both the Secondary School and Upper School Admissions processes.
Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Possesses strong communication and presentation skills to diverse audiences including students, parents, faculty, prospective families, other school placement counselors and admissions representatives.
Additional Salary Information: DOE $55K - $65K
