North Park Elementary School (NPES) is an independent, non-denominational, co-educational day school for students from preschool through eighth grade located in Chicago, IL. NPES educates children in an academically enriched, kind and supportive environment.
NPES seeks a candidate who is passionate about working with a dynamic faculty and excited to share his/her educational leadership experience and love of teaching and learning with the NPES community.
The Director of Teaching and Learning supports highly qualified teachers in a school environment that challenges academically and creatively talented students.
The Director of Teaching and Learning reports to the Head of School and is a member of the Administrative team.
Works closely with the Head of School in supporting and evaluating members of the faculty and in identifying the curricular and programmatic needs of the school, along with ensuring curricular and instructional continuity within and across grade levels
Supports teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum and appropriate assessment tools
Coordinates professional development and the selection of curriculum materials to support instruction, in conjunction with the Head of School
Works collaboratively with the Director of Learning Services
Helps develop class schedules to meet appropriate curricular and programmatic needs in conjunction with the faculty and members of the administration
Available for student behavior management and disciplinary intervention when necessary
Participates in parent conferences as needed
Works with teachers and administrators to set and evaluate annual professional development goals, in conjunction with the Head of School
Coordinates the mentoring of new faculty with the Head of School and develops appropriate orientation materials, in conjunction with the Head of School
Meets regularly with teachers and teams
Conducts observations and provides direct support for teachers, in conjunction with the Head of School
Oversees the student report card process
Utilizes assessment data to contribute to educational decision making with the Head of School
Manages and communicates professional development activities to the Lake Michigan Association of Independent Schools (LMAIS) professional development fund representative
Attends some evening school events
Other duties as needed to accomplish NPES’s educational goals and advance the school’s mission
The preferred candidate will have:
Demonstrated experience in education administration and leadership
Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills
Superior writing and editing skills
Demonstrated experience in evaluating, supporting, and coaching faculty and staff
Effective conflict resolution skills in working with students of all ages
Experience in organizing and leading communities
Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree is required for this position
A graduate degree in Administration, Leadership, Education, or other appropriate area of study is preferred
Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of five years teaching experience and three to five years of school leadership experience
Experience working with middle school students a plus
