Corlears School, a small New York City independent school located in the lively Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, has an immediate opening for a Kindergarten Assistant Teacher for the 2018-19 school year.
Candidates should be excited about and ready to embrace the school’s focus: serving children age 2 through 5th grade, and helping them achieve their full academic, ethical and creative potential. The Corlears faculty and administration value an inquiry based, constructivist approach to instruction, responsiveness to student exploration, and the role of teacher as a guide to student learning. It is a collaborative teaching environment which emphasizes the partnership of teaching teams.
The successful Co-Head Teacher candidate at Corlears will:

Have an understanding and interest in progressive / constructivist practices and principles
Have experience working with a variety of learners in a school setting
Have strong written and interpersonal communication skills
Have a sense of humor and a drive to collaborate with colleagues
Be committed to ongoing professional growth
Be comfortable collaborating on curriculum work and planning with teaching partner and to take the lead with lessons and actively participate in collaborating on creating and implementing curriculum studies in a team approach, with shared responsibilities
At least 2 years of head teaching classroom experience, preferably in a progressive school
Experience with TERC Investigations for Math; Math In the City Units
Experience with Teacher’s College Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop Units of Study
Responsive Classroom training / exposure
Sounds In Motion training
Skilled in adapting instruction for multiple cultural and learning perspectives
Handwriting Without Tears handwriting program
M.ED, MA or MS in education
Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required
