The master teacher should bring energy and passion for teaching science and STEM+ to the Middle School. Other responsibilities and necessary competencies include the following:
Familiarity with current trends in science and STEM-based education, such as best practices according to NSTA and the Next Generation Science Standards.
Teaching 5 classes; willingness to teach core science classes and STEM+ electives (or assist with electives) at all levels in Middle School
Understanding the development of middle-school students and displaying a passion for working with this age group
Connecting with students, challenging them, and shifting pedagogical practice to meet the needs of diverse learners
Working with grade-level colleagues to plan and coordinate learning goals for each class; working with LS and US colleagues to create vertical alignment of the curriculum
Advising 10-14 students, facilitating the “Lead from Here” curriculum, and meeting with parents of advisees
Interacting effectively with parents and colleagues
Participating in other aspects of the School community (i.e. athletics, committees)
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Science or STEM Education, an emphasis on Middle Grades education is preferred; MS or MEd highly desirable; previous experience teaching STEM electives; experience in an independent school setting preferred.
