MICDS Middle & Upper School Band Instructor
Serving as a co-instructor, the Middle & Upper School Band Instructor is responsible for preparing curriculum and teaching instrumental band to children in grades 7 – 12, and s/he will bring a collaborative nature and a student-centered approach to the classroom. Knowledge of all aspects of teaching instrumental music to students is required with an emphasis in brass. The position may include vocal and accompanist work as well as sponsorship of auxiliary music programming. This is a full-time position for the 2018-2019 school year.
Prepares course materials such as a syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts that fit into the framework of a one-to-one laptop environment.
Evaluates and grades students’ class work, assignments, and papers.
Compiles, administers, and grades assessments.
Works with the department chair to plan, evaluate, and revise curriculum, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
Attends faculty meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops, as well as stays current with professional readings and research in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
Uses effective classroom management techniques to ensure effective learning.
Serves as an advisor for 10-12 upper school students.
Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development.
Meets with parents and guardians to discuss their child’s progress.
Assures effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
Serves on divisional and school-wide curriculum and program committees.
Serves as a mentor to new faculty.
Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the School’s discretion.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
BM, BA or BFA in Music with at least three years of teaching experience and a Masters preferred.
Ability to work in an environment that embraces a diverse community of students, educators, parents, and alums.
Experience working in a one-to-one laptop environment or relevant technology skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must enjoy working and learning with children.
