Columbus School for Girls seeks to hire an energetic and creative part-timeUpper School English teacher to begin in the 2018-2019 academic year. Major Functions and Responsibilities:
Teach a variety of Upper School English courses. Candidates should be qualified to teach in two or more of the following subject areas: American literature, British literature, rhetoric and composition, and mythology/folklore.
Collaborate regularly with members of the English department to ensure a cohesive curriculum.
Participate actively in the life of the school, including leading clubs and/or activities, chaperoning school trips, and possibly coaching.
Experience, Characteristics, Qualities:
Experienced and well-qualified candidates with bachelor’s degrees in English will be considered, but a master’s degree or higher is preferred.
Strong candidates will have at least three years of experience teaching literature-rich, writing-intensive, and discussion-based classes, preferably at an independent school.
An understanding of the value of an all-girls education and the eagerness to learn about the best ways to help young women of promise reach their full potential as learners and leaders.
Excellent communication skills, a genuine appreciation of adolescents, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well within a diverse, collaborative environment.
