Dwight School is currently interviewing for a full time school nurse to oversee the Health Office, serving preschool and kindergarten students.
Promotes and protects the optimal health status of children
Administers medications and screenings for health concerns as needed
Coordinates school and community health activities and is a liaison between the home, school and community
Counsels with parents concerning health issues in order to facilitate responsible decision making, and refers them to outside health professionals
Consults with Head of Division to ensure safety and health procedures are in place and executed for all trips, events, and activities
Maintains, evaluates and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students
Obtains and maintains files of all student health histories
Plans and implements school health management protocols
Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases; knowledgeable of the disease reporting requirements through the Bureau of Child Care (BCC)
Educated and trained on conditions that commonly occur in children, how to recognize the symptoms and the actions the childcare provider should take when notifying DOHMH and whether child’s attendance should be restricted
Provides direct health education, and health counseling to assist families in making decisions on health and lifestyles that affect health
Serves as a resource person to the school staff members in health instruction
Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students
Responsible for guidelines set up by the New York State Department of Health
Bachelors degree preferred, Associate’s Degree in Nursing acceptable
At least two years experience in the healthcare field, preferably in an educational setting
Knowledge of early childhood development, including setting up and maintaining a healthy environment for young children
Strong oral and written communication skills
