The Alternative School For Math & Science seeks an experienced, creative, and collaborative, middle school English Language Arts teacher. Responsibilities include teaching 7th grade English, advising, and participating fully in the elective and extracurricular programs of the school. All aspects of our learning environment are designed to support the development of every child. Our community values kindness and emphasizes the importance of doing your best work. Our program is standards based, and we prioritize learning activities and assessments that are meaningful, engaging, and authentic. Candidates must therefore possess a real appreciation for middle school children, a comprehensive understanding of ELA as a discipline, a deep commitment to employing varied instructional strategies to guide the academic progress of each student, and a willingness to embrace the innovations necessary to ensure that students are successfully prepared for their tomorrows.
ASMS is located in Corning, NY, the gateway to the Finger Lakes. This historic town is also home to the corporate headquarters and global research center of Corning Incorporated and to the internationally acclaimed Corning Museum of Glass. We serve children in grades 6 through 8 from the Southern Tier of New York and Northern Tier of Pennsylvania.
Qualifications, Skills and Competencies.
An undergraduate degree in English is required. A graduate degree is preferred.
Experience teaching middle or high school students.
Proficiency using technology in education.
