Metropolitan Montessori School (“MMS”) is a 200-student independent co-ed day school for grades pre-K through 6, located on a quiet neighborhood street on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
MMS seeks an innovative and highly seasoned professional with strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of mission based fiscal leadership to serve as its next Business Operations Manager, working closely with the CFO. The Business Operations Manager serves as a member of the Administrative Team, and reports directly to the CFO.
MMS has a $6MM operating budget, and recently completed a $12MM Campus Expansion Project in 2017, modernizing and increasing the School's facilities by 50%.
The Business Operations Manager is responsible for financial records, facilities, vendor relations, accounts payables, and student billings, working closely with the CFO, Registrar, Accounts Receivables, Admissions, and Advancement team.
The Business Operations Manager works closely with the CFO, Head of School, and Board of Trustees, and participates in the Finance, Investment, and Financial Aid committees.
The Business Operations Manager is responsible managing the School’s financial records, programs, and practices including preparing both the annual budget and monthly reconciliations.
The successful candidate will be a creative and strategic thinker with a clear vision of the role of finance in realizing institutional objectives and priorities. An outstanding communicator and problem solver, he/she will also have proven experience in working in a small collegial environment, demonstrating a dedication to community, collaboration, and equity.
A minimum of 5 years of business office or accounting experience in a non-profit environment is required. Academic and/or independent school experience is a plus but not required.

The Business Operations Manager needs to learn and understand the unique culture of the school environment and be flexible and adapt policies and procedures in such a manner to ensure that the school delivers its mission in a sustainable manner.
