Pembroke Hill School was created in 1984 as the merger of Pembroke-Country Day School (boys) and Sunset Hill School (girls), each of which was founded over 100 years ago by progressive minded educators and parents. It is located on two campuses less than a mile apart: the Wornall campus (400 W. 51st St.) provides programs for children age 2 years through fifth grade. Students in sixth through 12th grade attend classes on the Ward Parkway campus (5121 State Line Road).
Pembroke Hill students live in 71 zip codes throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area, with almost equal numbers from Missouri and Kansas. These students represent a variety of socioeconomic,
religious, ethnic, and racial backgrounds; students of color represent 29 percent of the school population. The school has 121 faculty members of whom 63% hold advanced degrees. The average Pembroke Hill faculty member has seventeen years of teaching experience.
Pembroke Hill prides itself on offering a challenging academic program for students of all ages as well as for the breadth of its offerings in arts, athletics, co-curricular activities, and community service. Underpinning all aspects of school life is a commitment to the Mission “to enable all students to build character and to develop their intellectual, physical, and creative abilities to their highest level.” Equally important is the dedication to Values: Respect, Compassion, Scholarship, and Integrity.
The Head of School reports to a 23-member Board of Trustees, including parents, alumni, and city leaders. For the school’s next leader, the Board seeks an individual of outstanding character, whose personal and professional skills match the school’s culture and who will inspire and enable Pembroke Hill School to achieve its vision for the future.
