The Alternative School For Math & Science seeks an experienced, creative, and collaborative, middle school choral music teacher. Primary responsibilities include the direction and management of all aspects of the ASMS choral program: instructing three grade-level choruses; preparing students for area and state music competitions; and leading extra-curricular music ensembles. Successful candidates will also be able to contribute to the instrumental program, assisting with concert band rehearsals and providing one-on-one instrumental instruction. ASMS teachers also serve as academic advisors.

ASMS is located in Corning, NY, the gateway to the Finger Lakes. This historic town is also home to the corporate headquarters and global research center of Corning Incorporated and to the internationally acclaimed Corning Museum of Glass. We serve children in grades 6 through 8 from the Southern Tier of New York and Northern Tier of Pennsylvania.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies.
An undergraduate degree in music performance or music education is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
Experience teaching middle or high school students
Strong vocal and piano skills.
Comprehensive knowledge of choral literature for middle school voices.
A commitment to standards-based instruction and assessment.
