Music Teacher (Grades 2-8)
Belmont Day seeks a dynamic, skilled and creative music teacher who will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing instruments, and listening. The teacher will be an integral member of the faculty of both the lower and middle schools, teaching music to elementary students and offering arts electives for middle school students.
This is a full-time, exempt, and benefit eligible position. It is a ten-month faculty year position and reports to the lower school division head.
? Demonstrate skill and joy in working with elementary and middle school students
? Design an elementary and middle school curriculum with an eye on diversity and inclusivity, differentiation, and best practice
? Teach foundational music skills
? Teach both instrumental and general music classes
? Create a positive, stimulating, and innovative environment for learning
? Teach a core music class for sixth grade and offer 4 music elective classes for seventh and eighth grades
? Support school plays, first through eighth grades
? Provide music for assemblies and work with the arts team to organize whole school musical events and performances
? Be creative and skilled in differentiation to meet the individual needs of students
? Display strong organizational skills and be able to keep careful anecdotal records about student progress
? Demonstrate interest in pursuing professional development and keeping current with best
? Communicate verbally and in writing honestly, regularly, and sensitively with parents
? Develop strong collaborative relationships with colleagues
? Participate enthusiastically in all aspects of an excellent school
? Commit to effective use of technology
? Actively participate as a member of the arts team
? Demonstrated expertise in the piano and the ability to teach a woodwind or string instruments
? Excellent management skills in the classroom and the ability to give supportive feedback
? Excellent communication, oral and written
? Outstanding organization skills
? A sense of humor, flexibility, energy, self-reflection, patience, creativity
? A flair for collaboration and team building
? A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity work
Music education degree or certification
Music teaching experience in an elementary and middle school environment
Knowledge of children and their developmental progression
A bachelor’s or advanced degree
