Hawaii Preparatory Academy is currently seeking an educator to join our Upper Campus Science Department faculty for the 2018-19 academic year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teach classes in computer science, electronics and robotics with a focus on team-based projects.
Support an interdisciplinary capstone program, which includes guiding student-designed projects and assisting with showcasing student work.
Serve as the leader of the school’s Robotics team.
Have a passion for sharing their abilities with the school and local community.
Continue the development of a robust, rigorous, student-focused technology and engineering curriculum at the school.
Develop and maintain a system of organization and accountability for devices, equipment, space, and materials to promote and ensure responsible usage by students and faculty.
The ideal candidate will have taught Science or Engineering at the high school level, or have related experience, and hold a degree in a relevant discipline. Upper School teachers at HPA are expected to teach, advise, and lead students according to HPA's curriculum and mission. Our teachers work with students on the continuous development of skills, attitudes, and knowledge required to make effective college, career and life choices. They are also able to collaborate with other teachers of the same course, department, and whole faculty. An ability to interact professionally with parents and community members, the maturity and personal stability sufficient for a demanding position, and a positive attitude and strong work ethic are essential.
In addition to classroom teaching, the position includes supporting co-curricular programs, student advising, ability to drive a 14 passenger bus (training is supplied). An interest in participating in the residential school community is preferred.
