About University School
University School in Cleveland is a nationally-recognized, K-12 independent school that is a boys’ school by design. Founded in 1890 on the innovative concept of experiential education, the School has long combined a rigorous classical education with hands-on learning. At the turn of the century, while boys were preparing for an Ivy League education, they also rolled up their sleeves with training in the manual arts such as metal and wood working.
Today, with a 21stcentury, global perspective, this hands-on learning continues as students pursue a demanding academic program as well as significant involvement in the arts, athletics, community improvement, international travel, and numerous outdoor projects that include an on-campus trout hatchery and a maple sugaring operation. The School’s academic reputation is outstanding, and the entire student body is college-bound. Finally, a recent strategic initiative has spawned a burgeoning 1:1 program that earned us the distinction as an Apple Distinguished School – one of just 56 schools nationally.
