Currently, we have a position as a MS Languages Department Chair (Grades 6-8th).At Fieldston Middle and into the Upper school, we teach Chinese, Latin, French, and Spanish. We are looking for candidates who can teach either in Spanish or French languages or both.
Responsibilities: Department chairs at ECFS are charged with, in addition to teaching, curricular leadership, remaining up to date in current scholarship in their discipline, supervising and evaluating teachers in their department, management of the department, and working closely with their departmental counter parts or coordinators in other divisions.
The ideal candidate has prior leadership experience, preferably as a department chair, and has proven abilities in developing a departmental vision and experience in change management. He/she will be someone who has high emotional intelligence, is organized, communicates effectively, is collaborative and collegial, while also open to receiving feedback to support growth, and does not shy away from difficult conversation when necessary. It’s important that the the candidate also exhibits high emotional intelligence and is invested in actively supporting their own growth in learning about diversity topics and social-emotional learning.
Bachelor’s degree in French/ Spanish, Language Instruction. Master’s preferred. Those with advanced degrees will be given additional consideration.
Minimum 7 years of prior, relevant full-time classroom teaching experience teaching in your language of instruction.
Proven experience with curriculum design, that includes addressing diversity, social justice topics,and social emotional learning elements in their work and leadership of others
Proven experience with supervision and evaluation of faculty
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
Prior work in a middle school environment.
Understanding of and desire to work with middle school aged students
Proficient in the use technology, including Smartboards and Google platform.
