St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Metairie, LA seeks an experienced Upper School division leader to serve on the Head of School’s senior leadership team and to oversee all aspects of learning and school life for grades nine through twelve.
This position requires several fundamental talents and skills: the ability to establish an appropriate vision, effective tone, and clear expectations for the Upper School; the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues including the Head of School and other senior administrators; the ability to communicate with parents in a clear, responsive, and timely manner; and the ability to supervise and support faculty to meet and exceed high standards in teaching, reporting, advising, and parent communication.
The Upper School Head should hold an advanced degree in an academic subject area or educational administration and must be a skilled writer and speaker with a positive outlook, a solid work ethic, and an engaging sense of humor. He or she must be student-centered, confident in making final decisions, and adept at building relationships and consensus. The Upper School Head should have a collaborative managerial style, a desire to be immersed in an active educational community, successful experience in working with students, parents and teachers, and a strong interest in defining strategies to improve curriculum planning, implementation and evaluation.
Our challenging curriculum, taught in the context of meaningful relationships, prepares students to think critically and to collaborate professionally. We have shifted the paradigm of student leadership by deliberately sharing administrative power with high school students every time it is appropriate. An innovative school-wide design thinking program informs our curriculum. And, in the interest of promoting a global understanding and perspective, an international student program has been established in our Upper School.

We believe that true, deep learning is a result of the appropriate balance of student autonomy and healthy relationships.
