McCallie is seeking to hire a head basketball coach. McCallie competes in one of the most competitive leagues in the state and has sought to compete with the best teams in the nation. Basketball, therefore, plays a key role in McCallie’s mission - first and foremost as a means of developing character and brotherhood for the boys who participate in the sport, but also as a means of building community. McCallie seeks an individual who will embody McCallie’s ideals, lead its basketball program, and engage in the overall McCallie community and mission.
The ideal applicant will:
have a demonstrated record of success coaching basketball teams and developing basketball players either as a head coach at the high school level or as a head or assistant coach at the collegiate level;
serve as the head basketball coach for the varsity team and oversee and actively manage the entire basketball program at McCallie from sixth through twelfth grade;
promote, run, and actively participate in McCallie summer camps, basketball clinics, and other community outreach involving basketball;
be an excellent communicator who can articulate the role of basketball in the educational formation of McCallie students and more generally promote McCallie;
be able to work with existing basketball staff who may also have other responsibilities beyond the basketball program;
collaborate well with the administration, other program directors, faculty, and staff;
understand McCallie’s athletic culture that sees sports as an important part of the boys’ overall education and formation and also encourages boys to participate in more than one sport, activity, or interest;
engage and be involved in the McCallie community and mission beyond the basketball court, including assuming other duties in the life of the school that are commensurate with the applicant’s gifts and talents;
have a deep understanding of McCallie’s mission - including both its commitment to character development and the ideals of honor, truth, and duty and its Christian foundation and Judeo-Christian heritage - and have a desire to live out and serve that mission for the good of McCallie boys.
To be considered for this position an applicant must:
have significant experience as a head basketball coach at the high school level or beyond or have significant experience as an assistant coach at the collegiate level or beyond;
have earned a minimum of a bachelor’s degree; and
demonstrate an understanding and support of McCallie’s mission and institutional commitments.
Additional qualifications or characteristics desired, but not required, include:
experience relevant to teaching, coaching another sport, or serving in another program area.
Additional Salary Information: This is a twelve month, full-time position. It is considered exempt and eligible for full benefits.
