The Director of Communications, reporting to the Director of Advancement, plays a key role in developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic marketing and branding plan for Escuela Bilingüe Internacional (EBI). As part of their duties, The Director of Communications is responsible for promoting EBI enrollment, retention and fundraising while communicating the Mission of the school to the existing community and the community at large. In fulfilling this role, the Director of Communications creates and manages new marketing and branding initiatives, works collaboratively with many faculty and staff representatives, and oversees broader community relations projects as assigned.
Specific Job Responsibilities
Develop and maintain brand guidelines congruent with the EBI Mission statement and ensure all marketing and communications tactics align to the Mission.
Design and manage systems, practices and protocols for communication within the community.
Create and execute annual marketing and campaign plans that engage internal and external constituents in the support and promotion of the school.
Identify emerging marketing opportunities based on ongoing data analysis and design effective targeting strategies based on the results.
Oversee the production of material designed to increase the school’s visibility and competitive positioning as well as enhance the public’s perception of the school.
Write, edit and manage the production of key school publications including the annual report, family handbook, employee manual, camp program materials, etc.
Periodically review and update crisis communication plans, procedures, and templates.
Support the deployment of other scheduled and ad hoc communications to the community.
Train employees with regard to best practices for communications.
Manage the school’s social media presence in line with other marketing programs and social media best practices.
Produce daily and weekly communications to internal community (parents and faculty/staff) to include the family portal (PS), the family newsletter (al Día) and the employee newsletter (informad@s).
Work with other key personnel to coordinate, document, refine and implement the Communication and Marketing Plan across the school’s annual calendar to ensure timely publicity and strong results for all program needs.
Manage a weekly newsletter to the community – includes writing some articles, editing others, and publishing and testing in a web-based template.
Maintain the school’s web site, including blog releases, content review and updating, and UX review to improve site navigation to achieve its objectives of expanding awareness of the school and attracting prospective families.
Work across all departments, including Athletics and Community Programs, to showcase student and programmatic activities and successes both internally and externally.
Offer support at key admissions (assessment days, diversity forum, etc.) and advancement events (gala, state of the school, etc.).
Perform other duties as assigned by and in support of the Director of Advancement and Head of School.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or equivalent work experience
7+ years of experience in marketing and communications with independent schools or nonprofit organizations
Exceptional written and oral communication skills both in English and Spanish as a writer, editor and proofreader
Proven ability to effectively lead, manage, and inspire a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment with multiple creative projects
Experience in desktop publishing design and management of design production
Demonstrated experience with photography, videography, website content management and design, and social media marketing
Demonstrated success as a confident problem solver with attention to detail
Experience in graphic design
Strong background using design programs, email publishing, web publishing, PowerPoint, and other software programs

Escuela Bilingüe Internacional (EBI) is an independent co-educational dayschool located in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland of the San Francisco Bay Area. EBI is authorized by the International Baccalaureate to offer the Primary Years Programme. The school offers a Spanish-English dual language program, extending from pre-K through 8th grade.
