Position Title: Part-Time Ballet Teacher/Head Choreographer for the Montessori- Kindergarten Dance Recital

Reports to: Head of Lower School
Position Purpose: This position plans and implements Montessori & Kindergarten after school pre-ballet classes to prepare each student to reach his or her maximum potential in dance, in accordance with the mission of Saint Mary’s Hall.
Responsibilities to the General Community:
To prepare and implement pre-ballet classes for Montessori and Kindergarten classes and to act as Head Choreographer for the Montessori-Kindergarten Dance Production.
To teach additional Lower School ballet classes after school, according to program needs.
To work under the direction of the Director of Fine Arts and collaborate with other dance faculty and staff on curriculum, productions, vertical alignment and all dance-related activities.
To effectively integrate professional standards of dance education into everyday classroom instruction, curriculum, rehearsals and performance.
To provide choreography for dance productions that is age/ability appropriate, showcases in-school students equitably, and demonstrates the artistry becoming the Saint Mary’s Hall Dance Program.
To effectively work within the budgetary and technical perimeters of the program/venue.
To provide production support for the Montessori-Kindergarten Dance Recital and the Lower School Dance Production.
To attend production meetings, parent meetings, and any special meeting(s) related to duties.
To inform the Director of Fine Arts and/or the appropriate Division Head immediately of any notable challenges with students, parents, or staff.
To protect the privacy and working environment of the class always.
To conduct class meetings for parents when appropriate and communicate/cooperate with parents on a regular and consistent basis.
To exhibit a nurturing and professional manner.
To be responsible for the safety and physical well-being of your students always.
To maintain, along with dance colleagues, a tidy work environment in studios, dressing rooms, dance lobby and office.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
To possess a good working knowledge of a variety of dance styles and dance teaching methodologies.
To be able to communicate effectively with the school, department colleagues, and especially with parents.
To have a positive, upbeat, fun, but disciplined approach to teaching and learning dance.
Bachelor’s Degree in Dance, or related field required.
Experience teaching pre-ballet and ballet to children ages 3 to 9.
Have demonstrated expertise in choreography.
Can maintain positive relationships in a tight-knit office environment.
Independent school teaching experience preferred.
Must be available Monday through Thursday from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Work in a dance environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat. Must be able to demonstrate choreography.
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
Be able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs.
Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled environment.
Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
