The Creative Arts and Applied Skills department at Crofton House School is distinguished by extraordinary teachers who inspire students to develop and pursue their passion in all areas of creative arts and applied skills. Together, they are a collaborative team who design a diverse and sophisticated program for students extending from those who are learning at a novice level to those who will prepared to pursue their passion well beyond post-secondary study. The facilities for Drama classes and performance are well equipped, offering bright and technology-rich learning environments, including a black box theatre and performance auditorium.
You are a skilled and experienced Drama teacher, and you are able to transfer your knowledge to a diverse class of students, and in doing so, inspire their pursuit of this form of the arts. You are confident in supporting learners using approaches that are reflective of the way in which girls learn. You bring innovative solutions to learning challenges experienced by students. You optimize the resources available to you. You are energized by what you do. Students, members of your department, colleagues and parents find you to be approachable, available, knowledgeable, genuine and supportive. You demonstrate an understanding of the importance of parents as partners in their daughter’s education by maintaining open and collaborative relationships with the parent community. As a lifelong learner, you demonstrate a commitment to actively seeking professional development. You participate actively in the life of the school.
You will find the school to be a professional learning center. In addition to spending an engaging day with students who are genuinely interested in learning, thinking and playing, teachers are provided with the gift of time as part of their daily schedule to plan and work collaboratively with others.
Bring a student-centered, inquiry-based and collaborative approach to the delivery of the B.C. curriculum of Arts Education - Drama
Learn and teach collaboratively with teachers in the department and across the Senior School to plan, develop, implement an extraordinary learning experience for each individual student
Build relationships with teachers and staff across the school community
Participate in school meetings and events, including school planning and professional development
Engage in the Teacher Professional Growth Plan
Participate actively in the co-curricular program, specifically drama productions
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:
Relevant university qualifications preferably at the graduate level (e.g. Bachelor of Education plus Bachelor of Arts in Drama, Theatre Arts or equivalent)
An ability to teach other subjects such as English, a strong asset
Experience in an independent school, an asset
Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching
A demonstrable awareness of the learning styles of girls and young women
Collaborative and energetic with a passion for teaching
Committed to the craft of teaching, best practices, and standards of professional practice
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
A commitment toward continued professional development and growth
Energy, commitment and a readiness to participate in the co-curricular program the diverse life of the school community

Classes begin in September 2018 following teacher orientation in late August 2018.
