Sandy Spring Friends School is seeking candidates for the position of Head of House for one of the residential program's boarding houses. The Head of House is responsible for the general oversight of the boarding house and will manage its day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate will be tasked with developing and maintaining a family oriented environment in the house, and will work with the Director of Residential Life to ensure the vision of the house is reflective of the residential program’s philosophy. Candidates must have the ability and willingness to work early mornings, evenings until midnight, and weekend duty all on a rotating basis. An overnight on-call presence is also part of the duty rotation.
The Head of House oversees the expenditures within the house’s budget for activities, food, and supplies in collaboration with the Director of Residential Life. Also, the Head of House arranges and facilitates students’ transportation to and from campus and other locations; serves as the primary point of contact for families and school personnel; manages discipline and safety issues; and administers medications and first aid as needed. The Head of House reports to the Director of Residential Life, and will supervise full and part-time members of the boarding house staff. Housing is provided year-round so a willingness to live in the boarding house is expected.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred and current CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) certification a plus. The ideal candidate will have experience in a boarding school environment as a student or a dorm parent, or an interest in joining a boarding community. Those with less experience seeking an introduction to leadership in the private boarding school environment will also be considered and are encouraged to apply. We are looking for an energetic individual who has demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience; values working with a team; likes to problem solve; and has a genuine interest in working with high school students
Also essential are excellent written and interpersonal communications skills, as well as solid computer/technology skills. Possessing a valid driver’s license and confirmed insurability through our carrier to drive school vehicles is a requirement of hire. The ability to transport students in school vehicles is expected and a willingness to obtain a CDL (commercial driver’s license) is desirable.
Physical Requirements: Daily desk work including extensive amounts of computer and phone time as well as the ability to navigate stairs as part of daily routines; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to rearrange furniture for events is occasionally required.
