Position Overview The Primary Core Teacher is a lead teaching position in one of our three mixed aged 1st and 2nd grade classrooms. Our dynamic program is seeking dynamic candidates. With the support of an Associate Teacher, the Primary Teacher leads a classroom of approximately sixteen students, developing individual units of study for each student— integrating diverse disciplines and skills, while meeting the developmental needs of each child. The Primary Core Teacher reports directly to the Primary Dean.
Status The Primary Teacher is a salaried, exempt position.
The Logan School work day is 8:00-4:00
Until 5:00 when attending required all-staff meetings
Occasional evening/weekend hours
Overnight and weekend work is required for the extended trips
Essential Functions Run a classroom in a manner consistent with Logan's philosophy.
Plan and oversee individual student units
Coordinate individual student unit trips with unit field trip teacher
Plan and implement class units or similar activities that provide students the opportunity to work together and to integrate subject matter
Foster and support literacy in reading, writing and math in our individualized and "no ceilings" approach
Provide opportunities for exploration and problem solving
Collaborate with learning support professionals as needed (i.e. learning specialist, school counselor, etc.)
Monitor student academic development
Provide guidance in social-emotional growth
Lead/co-lead day and overnight trips as required
Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail
Mac and/or Windows computer literate
Experience with gifted learners
