Bay Ridge Prep is a NYSAIS-accredited, independent, co-ed, K-12 college preparatory school that is dedicated to enriching the intellectual curiosity, creativity, and emotional intelligence of each person. Bay Ridge Prep enrolls approximately 400 students in grades K-12, with 200 students in the Upper School and 200 students in the Lower & Middle Schools.
About the position:
Bay Ridge Prep seeks a full-time Director of Athletics for the 2018-2019 academic year. The Director of Athletics is a member of the school’s administration reporting to the Head of School. This is a 12 month position beginning in summer 2018.
Primary duties of the Director of Athletics include supervising the interscholastic program of athletics that includes 18 athletic teams spanning Grades 5-12. Approximately 90 students participate in interscholastic athletics. Bay Ridge Prep is a member of the Private School Athletic Association and the Independent School Athletic League.
The Director of Athletics is expected to:
Develop age and developmentally appropriate athletic schedules for all Bay Ridge Prep teams.
Recommend improvements and additions to programs based on student needs and interests.
Meet with individual coaches at the start, middle and end of each season to establish and review goals.
Supervise coaches and physical education personnel and maintain continuous professional development plans for athletics and physical education staff.
Be an active member of the coaching and/or physical education staff when necessary.
Collaborate with athletic trainer and medical personnel to ensure all coaches and student-athletes are in compliance with school and locally mandated health/safety regulations.
Secure permits for fields and secure facility rentals for practices and home games.
Coordinate team transportation with Main Office and Business Office.
Oversee scheduling of gym time for all programs in season in concert with other school activities.
Oversee inventory of all equipment, uniforms, supplies, etc.
Collaborate with the Business Manager on contracts with athletic vendors.
Collaborate with communications personnel to ensure timely dissemination of athletics news, information and announcements to appropriate constituents.
Participate as a member of the administrative team in overall planning for Bay Ridge Prep
Represent Bay Ridge Prep at all athletic league meetings.
Serve as an ambassador for the school and attend admissions events and parent events.
Seek opportunities to foster school spirit and development through athletics.
Perform other tasks as may be assigned by the Head of School.
Minimum of 3-5 years in an athletics leadership role (director, assistant director, or equivalent) at an independent/private school or college, or equivalent experience
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree a plus
Previous experience working with and sensitivity to students with learning differences a plus
Organized, detail and task-oriented, with excellent communication skills
Strong managerial and interpersonal skills
An understanding and appreciation for Bay Ridge Prep’s mission, philosophy and values
An understanding, knowledge and appreciation for independent schools
