The Controller handles high-level accounting, managerial accounting, and oversees the financial activities of the School. As head of the accounting department, the Controller will manage and supervise all aspects of accounting including accounts payable and receivable. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will assist with development of internal control policies, procedures, and financial planning as needed.
Establish, monitor, and enforce effective internal controls, especially cash management.
Prepare timely financial reports, including comparative actual and forecasted reports of operating results, cash flow, financial position, and variance explanations.
Prepare and review annual audit workpapers related to the School’s annual external CPA audit
Assist in preparing annual audited financial statements.
Manage cash flow and forecast of revenue collection and timing of expenditures.
Assist the School’s Retirement Committee with fulfilling their fiduciary responsibilities for the School's 403(b) retirement plan, as promulgated by ERISA and the U.S. Department of Labor.
Assist Head of School in the processing of annual employee Commitment Letters including the calculation of employee compensation.
Prepare all bank reconciliations, bank deposits, and review GL coding for all expenditure requests
Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, and all GL functions.
Establish a purchase order system within the AP process.
Calendarize/schedule all off duty security shifts and coordinate custodial support for certain campus activities.
Function as the data source for the School CFO in response to requests for financial information by Board Committees.
Coordinate the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts collaborating with senior School administration and all cost center managers.
Coordinate with HR to process all payroll related transactions.
Establish procedures for vehicle preventive maintenance, as well assist in the management and monitoring of the School’s vehicular safety program. Collect/review/assess daily driver vehicle assessment reports, etc.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Additional duties as assigned by the CFO and/or Head of School.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
Ability to meet and establish deadlines.
Flexibility and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum of seven years of experience, including two years of supervisory responsibility. Controller or equivalent experience highly desirable.
Management and effective utilization of accounting software, especially Senior Systems and the entire suite of FACTS cash management services
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field.
Ability to create meaningful financial statements in several contexts- performance measurement, budget assembly and strategic forecasting.
