This position's primary responsibility is to manage, strengthen and grow the relationship between GFA and its community of approximately 3,000 alumni, with the goal of increasing engagement and ultimately giving to the school.The Manager of Alumni Relations reports to the Director of Advancement and Community Relations.
Goals and Expectations
The Manager of Alumni Relations is expected to:
Draft, implement and manage a comprehensive alumni and parent relations program;
Identify and develop new opportunities to build a stronger community of GFA alumni by improving their sense of connection to the school and with each other;
Increase alumni participation in Annual Giving and increase total giving from alumni to the school; and
Identify and cultivate potential alumni donors of major and planned gifts.
Alumni Engagement Management
Create a series of opportunities for alumni throughout the country to gather;
Collaborate with the Director of Donor Relations to create a travel program for new Head of School, in geographic areas where there are concentrations of GFA alumni and past parents, to enhance relationships;
Oversee all aspects of on- and off-campus alumni events and maintain a “master” calendar for alumni;
Create opportunities for Alumni to interact with the School through mentorship programs and speaker series;
Create, implement and manage young alumni programs that maintain GFA’s connection to its youngest alumni;
Oversee the Alumni Council, including organization and administration of meetings;
Working in concert with the Marketing and Communications department, manage all print and electronic communication for alumni and past parents, including alumni information in the GFA Magazine, e-newsletters, and event invitations;
Oversee alumni focused platforms including social media accounts, the alumni webpage and alumni newsletters; and
Survey landscape of peer schools and develop new methods to communicate with all alumni constituencies to increase engagement and giving.
Working closely with the Manager of Annual Giving, create and manage an alumni and past parent giving program, including appeals, phone calls, and meetings;
Recruit, train and retain alumni fundraising volunteer group(s);
In collaboration with the Manager of Annual Giving, design and implement a program to encourage and increase leadership level gift to Annual Giving;
Implement a Reunion giving program;
Design and implement a program to encourage young alumni giving, including creation of a Young Alumni Giving Club and a senior class giving program; and
Work closely with Director of Donor Relations on stewardship of alumni and past parent donors.
In collaboration with Director of Advancement, design, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive planned giving program that includes strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of planned giving prospects;
Collaborate with the Director of Advancement and the Advancement Committee Chair to develop a strategy for encouraging all Trustees to become members of the Quisque Pro Omnibus Legacy Society;
In collaboration with the Director of Advancement, identify and manage a portfolio of planned giving prospects;
With the support of the Marketing and Communications department, design and implement a comprehensive planned giving marketing program to include creation of a Quisque Pro Omnibus Legacy Society brochure;
In collaboration with the Director of Donor Relations, establish and maintain communication with identified donors of planned gifts;
Oversee all aspects of the Quisque Pro Omnibus Legacy Society, including planning and scheduling events, maintaining donor lists, design and production of logo and collateral materials, etc.;
Oversee recordkeeping and gift acknowledgment process for all planned gifts; and
Create and maintain an inventory of gift expectancies to include type, purpose, and documentation when available.
Manage Alumni Relations budget;
Maintain oversight of alumni records in database;
Work to improve data flow from the School to the alumni records; and
Perform other duties as requested.
Bachelor’s degree and minimum of four (4+) years in advancement or development role, preferably in an independent school;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with colleagues throughout the School, alumni, other constituents and the public
Demonstrably strong writing, planning and organizational skills
Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve institutional goals
High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information
Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
Ability to travel and work evenings
Superior interpersonal and written communications skills and an appreciation for the School’s mission;
Highly proficient knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office and Senior Systems, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge.
Typical Level of Interaction:
This position requires strong interaction with all school personnel as well as various service providers.
