The Director of Admission reports to the Head of School and will be a member of the senior leadership team of Cheshire Academy. In this capacity, she/he will not only be charged with overall responsibility for recruitment, admissions, enrollment management, and financial aid, but will also contribute at a senior level to the broad strategy and goals of Cheshire Academy. The Director leads a staff and collaborates closely with academic and administrative leaders across the campus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leading, managing, and mentoring the Admission staff, and ensuring that the office operates in a transparent, collegial, and open manner; creating an environment where all are encouraged to participate and assume leadership roles; ensuring orientation and professional development opportunities to support Admission staff in order to stay leading edge in enrollment management, recruitment, and financial aid practices
Collaborating and communicating with faculty leaders and athletic directors to ensure that there is a strategic and organized approach to each admissions cycle, with a common focus on key targets and a common understanding of success
Developing and implementing strategy for a multi-year enrollment plan; managing resources effectively to fulfill enrollment goals and target different markets
Enhancing and strengthening the policies and procedures that govern the recruitment, admissions, and financial aid processes, and ensuring a culture of accountability, consistency, clarity, and transparency in how decisions are made and implemented
Ensuring a streamlined process throughout the student recruitment cycle, from initial contact, to application, to registration; monitoring the annual admissions cycle, and implementing procedural and strategic changes, when required, to ensure a high level of customer service
Working with Marketing and Communications to ensure that all materials, social media strategies, and other vehicles for reaching students are coordinated and consistent
Establishing and cultivating a network external to the School (both nationally and internationally) with relevant agencies, independent counselors, feeder schools, media, and other partners to ensure that Cheshire Academy continues to be the school of choice for a wide range of students who can both thrive in, and contribute to, school life
Establishing and maintaining open lines of communication and collegial relationships with administration, faculty, and staff across the school community
Working with the Director of Enrollment Management and in research and strategy
The successful candidate will be a strong leader who is results driven with several years of experience and a proven track record of success in admissions, sales, or a related area. Although the Search Committee recognizes that no one individual is likely to possess all the following qualities in equal measure, it has developed the following set of criteria related to the desired background, experience, and personal qualities that will be sought in candidates for the position.
The successful candidate will possess:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Advanced Degree preferred.
Outstanding leadership qualities, the ability to develop and articulate an admissions strategic plan for Cheshire Academy and the ability to inspire staff and colleagues in pursuit of its goals
Executive level skills, with a strong business orientation, and a track record of working to achieve goals and objectives and measuring success in concrete and tangible ways; planning and organization skills that can be transferred to individual staff members
Strong systems and strategic thinking capabilities, and a demonstrated ability to be a successful agent of transformation in support of his/her organization’s mission and goals
A proven ability to adapt to change in a dynamic environment, and to bring others along in adjusting and thriving; the willingness to roll up one’s sleeves and take on new challenges
A consultative, yet decisive, management style, and the desire and ability to both mentor and empower others to reach their own potential
Experience with, and a deep understanding of, innovative strategic enrollment management concepts; the ability to approach strategy in a creative way
Knowledge of independent school culture and administration, earned as a long-time staff member in an Admission office
An existing network of relationships within independent school circles, the school fair circuit, and feeder schools
An appreciation for, and interest in, diversity – and the desire to be part of a vibrant, multi-cultural community
Experience working with a governing board
Superior communication, presentation, relationship building, and networking skills; an ability to convey information in an engaging and thoughtful manner
The ability to relate well to others, a deep respect for collegiality, and the skills to build productive and positive relationships across the campus community
A demonstrated ability to embrace and communicate change, and the courage, judgment, and wisdom to make important decisions when they must be made
The ability to foster teamwork and collaboration and to create an environment in which team members and staff are motivated to excel
