The Middle School is seeking a mathematics teacher who combines expertise in the subject with a passion for teaching students in the middle grades. The ideal candidate is both creative and collaborative in the planning of instruction and is committed to the principle that the deepest learning occurs when students are afforded opportunities to inquire, discover, and test out their learning for themselves. Masters is eager to consider application from traditionally underrepresented groups.
Teach four math classes (20 class periods)
Successfully engage and develop students’ skill, interest and enthusiasm for math
Serve as an advisor to 8-10 students
Provide supervision during recess, in study hall and in other moments of the school day, as needed
Participate in extra/co-curricular program as a coach or club supervisor or teach a fifth section
Attend grade-level team meeting(s) and Middle School faculty meetings
Participate in the life of the Middle School by attending full group activities including morning meeting, student presentations and performances and culminating events
Collaborate with teachers of the same course, within the same content area and within the same (grade-level) team
Communicate effectively with advisors, deans, counselors, division head, colleagues and parents regarding student progress, as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in either Mathematics and/or Mathematics Education
Understanding of and desire to work with middle school students
Familiar with and willing to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
Interest in being an active member of The Masters School community
Flexible, collaborative, accommodating, and open-minded with respect to instruction and differentiating instruction
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
Proficient in the use of technology
