Buckley Country Day School, a K-8 independent school in Nassau County, New York seeks a full-time Spanish teacher to teach grades 6-8 in our Upper School. The candidate should be eager about the opportunity to strengthen our Spanish program through his/her strong knowledge of current language teaching methods, curriculum development and teaching culture.
Strong candidates will have:
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or Spanish education, with a master’s degree strongly preferred
At least two years of recent middle school level Spanish teaching experience
Knowledge of current middle school Spanish curricula and pedagogy
Proven ability to write and execute appropriate lesson plans as well as long-term curricular plans; ability to prepare and evaluate student assessments
Ability to successfully use a variety of targeted teaching activities to expand the four language skills
Familiarity with using current language and teaching related websites, apps and multimedia to enrich daily lessons
Interest in professional development, both as a Spanish teacher and member of our school community
Successful experience collaborating with a team of teachers
Positive attitude and strong ability to connect with children and young teenagers
Clear oral and written communication skills
Ability and desire to interact professionally in a globally diverse school community
