Oak Hill School seeks a creative and collaborative music teacher for Prekindergarten through sixth-grade students. Specific responsibilities of the position include: ? Teach skills in music understanding/appreciation, harmony, explorations in music, band, and choral music to elementary pupils. ? Plan and execute a balanced music program and organize class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time. ? Encourage students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible. ? Utilize a repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils. ? Maintain care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments and equipment. ? Evaluate each pupil’s musical growth, performance, and musical understanding. ? Select appropriate music, books and instructional aids to enhance learning and requisition musical instruments and instructional supplies as necessary. ? Collaborate and provide musical programs for school assemblies, parent meetings, seasonal programs, concerts, and the fifth-and sixth-grade musical. ? Communicate with parents and school staff on individual student’s progress. ? Collaborate on grade-level and subject-matter teams, participate in class outings. ? Design and teach innovative lessons that differentiate for variety.
Qualifications include at least a bachelor’s degree in music education or a closely related field, as well as elementary-school teaching experience. Experience in curriculum development and revision are also required. Knowledge of and ability to play a variety of musical instruments are preferred.
