Professional Opportunity: Lower School Librarian
Saint George’s School, founded in 1954, is an independent, coeducational day K-12 school located on the Little Spokane River north of Spokane. The Lower School, grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade, offers a vibrant and challenging academic program which encourages children to explore their diverse world, expand their creativity, develop their sense of self, and build lasting friendships. The personal teacher-student connection fosters inquiry, critical thinking, and risk-taking as each child is empowered to take ownership of their learning and is encouraged to translate their knowledge into action and reflection.
This position will be a 0.6, regular faculty appointment.
Acquires books and other material relevant to the demands of the curriculum, teacher requests, child development themes, and recreational reading interests.
Prepares and catalogs all library materials received.
Develops and maintains management and records systems by maintaining an accurate circulation system.
Establishes procedures for the return of overdue books.
Takes an accurate inventory each year and keeps books and other materials and equipment in good condition.
Provides resources to instructional personnel by working cooperatively and constructively with instructional and administrative staff of the school.
Provides information about new materials and makes them available to staff and students.
Encourages teachers to suggest materials to be purchased for implementation of education programs.
Instructs students in the use and resources of the library.
Participates in in-service workshops and seeks professional development.
Engages in activities/organizations and reads journals designed to keep abreast in the field of library science.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Previous experience in an elementary (K-5) classroom or Library is essential.
Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree.
Librarian Certification required
Washington State Teaching Certificate required.
Passion for teaching elementary school age students.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Energetic, enthusiastic, self-starter, flexible.
