Lake Forest Country Day School (LFCDS) seeks a new Director of Early Childhood beginning July 2018. LFCDS is a highly regarded, coeducational independent school for students two years of age through eighth-grade in Lake Forest, Illinois. The School, now in its 130th year, is located 30 miles north of Chicago and features a state of the art facility on nearly thirty acres of land in a beautiful suburban setting.
LFDCS is nationally recognized for its strong academic program and its developmental approach to learning. The Director of Early Childhood works closely with the Head of Lower School, and serves on the School’s senior administrative team. The director supervisors program for students ages two to six. Serve as the educational leader of the Early Childhood Center (ECC), responsible for its day-to-day operation.
Observe, supervise, and evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; to supervise the teaching process, and to review and evaluate the academic programs.
Provide a positive environment in which establishing a love of learning takes place, and foster a school climate which is supportive and reflects high morale.
Support admissions in efforts to maintain enrollment and retention.
Communicate regularly with parents and partner with them in the best interest of their child.
Ensure compliance with legal requirements of government regulations and agencies; to maintain the educational standards established by the State of Illinois and by those agencies that examine and accredit the ECC.
Strive for unity and cooperation through tact, helpfulness, respect, and a recognition of individual differences and the special abilities and strengths of each teacher.
Conduct regular meetings with faculty which will deal both with routine school matters and with the exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest and concern.
Be a visible, positive, and professional presence in all areas of the school.
Serve as a consultant and role model to teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures.
