Reporting to the Associate Director, Family Life Programs, the Assistant Director will support the management of the operations within the Family Life Programs portfolio including extended day, Summer Lab, and the student bus service at one of the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools’ two campuses. The Assistant Director will provide operational oversight and ongoing support to extended day and Summer Lab staff. The Assistant Director will assess staff strengths through formal and informal evaluations and observation and provide feedback. The Assistant Director will provide operational oversight of outside vendors managing ongoing relationships with on-site providers through formal and informal evaluations and observation. Responsible for aligning operational procedures for providers with those of our internal partners and programs. The Assistant Director will align program offerings with the developmental scope and sequence of their student population in coordination with the Schools’ administrative teams.
Oversee and support extended day and Summer Lab staff including lead teachers and teaching assistants. Provide feedback and coaching to staff toward growth and development in their teaching practice as well as seamless operational execution.
Provide guidance and support to teaching teams in an effort to meet program goals and balancing group and individual growth.
Monitor and coach outside providers in all segments of the program each day. Coordinate provider assessments based upon qualitative evaluation of the program. Support the in-class activities of providers within the after school program.
Conduct outside provider class observations on a regular basis and provide constructive feedback to the Associate Director and providers to drive program improvement.
In coordination with the Associate Director, will have responsibility for managing budgets and payroll, reconcile and track accounts receivable/payable.
Support the development and refinement of systems used to organize and execute the program each day including PowerSchool, Schoology, Google docs, School Pass, as well as development of non-electronic based systems to support program operations.
Use short and long range plans to support registration, communications, and daily operational tasks focussing on student safety and growth.
Create and implement ongoing program-wide needs assessments to ensure appropriate diversity of activities are available.
Develop plan to broaden scope and scale of program offerings.
Support the development and creation of program-wide initiatives.
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in education.
Master's degree in a related field preferred.
Experience working with students and student organizations and facility management required.
At least two years experience working with school age children or equivalent experience required.
A minimum of one year of experience managing projects or programs required
Bookkeeping or budget management experience preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
Technical knowledge or skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Internet required
Experience with Google docs preferred
Knowledge of Apple computer systems preferred.
Ability to lead and mentor others required
Ability to understand the needs of the University of Chicago community and work with students, faculty, and staff in a wide array of situations required
Ability to work into the early evening on a daily basis required. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends required.
