Green Acres School is a coed, progressive school of approximately 240 children in Pre-K through Grade 8, on a beautiful 15-acre campus near Washington, DC. Established as a progressive school in 1934, Green Acres School was the first racially integrated school in Montgomery County, Maryland. The Early Childhood program at Green Acres implements best practices and incorporates current research related to the teaching of young students.
Green Acres School has an opening for one of three teachers who work together in a class of 3 and 4 year-olds in the Pre-K Unit. The successful candidate will be an experienced teacher who understands the needs of children within this age group. The candidate will join a developmentally based, experiential program that is cognitively challenging and responsive to individual children’s interests and needs. The ability to work as a collaborative team member is an essential skill for this position. Teachers in Pre-K work together to provide a comprehensive program of individual, small group, and full-class activities. Outdoor learning and free play are integral components of the program. Additionally, specialists collaborate with core teachers to integrate PE, science, and art into the overall learning experience. The Pre-K team also works collaboratively with Kindergarten teachers as part of the Early Childhood Unit.
Requirements for an early childhood teaching position include:
Degree with a focus on early childhood education; advanced degree preferred
Teaching experience with pre-kindergarten, kindergarten or first grade students
Preferred: experience working in a collaborative team
Ability to communicate effectively with parents and staff, both verbally and in written communications
Participation in weekly staff meetings and school-wide professional development initiatives
