St. John’s Episcopal School, celebrating 56 years in Olney, Maryland, is seeking a preschool teacher for 3 year olds during the 2018-2019 school year. The successful preschool applicant possesses a thorough understanding of early childhood development. The candidate will be able to plan and provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences for three-year-olds that are conducive to their intellectual, physical, social and emotional development. The applicant must be skilled in classroom differentiation and be able to develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students, keeping them interested and motivated. Must monitor and evaluate student outcomes through a variety of assessment techniques, maintain appropriate records, and follow required procedures and practices. The candidate must be a strong communicator, both orally and in writing, and be able to interact effectively with students, parents, staff, and community. The candidate must also participate fully in the life of the school, in terms of curricular work and in community activities and functions.
Thoroughly understands preschool curriculum and best instructional practices
Understands the literacy acquisition process and can confidently design and implement age appropriate activities
Uses a variety of teaching strategies, effective lesson planning, and classroom management techniques
Employs thematic based instruction where appropriate
Knowledge, Skills and General Abilities:
Has a current and comprehensive knowledge of instructional area, a variety of teaching strategies, effective lesson planning, and classroom management techniques
Has a general knowledge of curriculum development
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Google Docs, e-mail, and internet searches
Reads periodicals, manuals, resource materials, and professional reports from a variety of disciplines
Writes professional reports and letters using proper formats, grammar, punctuation, and spelling
Speaks clearly and distinctly to a variety of audiences on the topics related to the instructional program
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; early childhood or elementary education degree preferred
Years of Experience: 2 - 4 years full time teaching experience in early childhood area preferred
