Music is offered to all students, grades K-12, within a comprehensive and diverse curriculum. Students participate in a variety of music experiences, from K-8 general music classes to a large and excellent program in instrumental (orchestra and band) and choral music beginning in grade 5.

Bachelor’s degree in music education or applied music. Master’s degree preferred
Three (3) years of successful teaching experience in a variety of General Music classes, preferably in the middle school, or relevant experience.
Proven leadership and classroom management skills.
Demonstrated ability to offer and teach a comprehensive general music curriculum, utilizing a variety of teaching methods and resources.
Commitment to the intrinsic value of music and ability to articulate the educational value of music; a desire to successfully communicate and model these values for student musicians.
Knowledge and experience in the field of music education as demonstrated through
The development of comprehensive curricular plans;
The implementation of effective teaching practices, including appropriate and contemporary uses of classroom management skills, motivational methods, evaluation and assessment practices;
An understanding of human behavior, which allows for differences in ability, personality and interests, learning and motivation.
Competent technology skills including ability to use Internet and Email, basic digital recording equipment and software, administrative procedures and systems such as Microsoft Word, Excel, managing files and records.
Understanding and sensitivity to the social, educational, and cultural needs of the Punahou community.
Ability to establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with members of the community outside of Punahou.
Proactive and self?motivated to learn and committed to continual professional development
The ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, parents, and administrators.
Excellent organizational skills.
