Saint Mark’s school is an independent, Episcopal coeducational day school in Altadena, California. Founded in 1960, the school serves the needs of approximately 300 Preschool through Sixth grade students from diverse ethnic, racial, religious and economic backgrounds. The school is seeking a high energy, well organized teacher who has proven success teaching at the K-6 elementary or middle school level. The elementary music teacher is responsible for teaching music education to students in grades K-6, and helping students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music and performing arts experiences.
The ideal candidate will be able to incorporate several styles of teaching and use varied approaches in a responsive classroom. Elementary Music Teacher
Full time; Exempt status
Valid State Teacher Certification Granted by the Professional Teaching Standards Board
Bachelor’s degree with a major or minor in music
Ability to play at least one standard orchestral instrument and ability to sing
Minimum of five years full-time teaching experience at the elementary or middle school level
Interest in musical and performing arts curriculum development and building new content

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Acting in a manner corresponding to the requirements of the Employee Handbook of Saint Mark’s School.
Meeting with each elementary class on a regular basis in accordance with the music schedule.
Giving music instruction to each class in accordance with the Curriculum Guide.
Exhibiting strong skills in cultural competency and a commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
Planning and implementing a program that carefully considers the needs of each individual child, keeping in mind the stated goals and philosophy of Saint Mark’s School.
Exhibiting a growth mindset, participating in recommended conferences, courses, etc., and pursuing self-directed and ongoing professional growth.
Working collaboratively with grade level teaching teams and other staff.
Relating professionally to each child, his/her parents, and other staff members.
Maintaining a neat, clean, and comfortable classroom atmosphere that inspires and exhibits student learning.
Conferencing with parents as needed and particularly whenever there is special concern that warrants discussion between parents and teachers.
Serving on committees, assisting with parent education nights, helping with admission events
Arriving promptly at the assigned time and leaving only upon completion of daily tasks.
Attending all designated staff meetings and school/Parent Association programs.
Supervising the elementary Christmas program, including script preparation and extra rehearsals as needed.
Supervising the elementary spring programs, including script preparation and extra rehearsals as needed.
Coordinating the elementary variety show.
Coordinating the elementary Grandparents and Special Friends Day program.
Representing Saint Mark’s School at appropriate curriculum-related meetings and conferences.
Coordinating and directing curriculum integrated grade level plays and performances.
Completing evaluations (grade/narrative) of elementary students.
Fulfilling all applicable responsibilities listed in the Elementary Teacher Job Description and all other duties as assigned.
