Baker Demonstration School, an independent progressive PK-8 school on Chicago’s North Shore, is seeking an exemplary Math teacher for its Middle School program. We value candidates who are passionate about progressive models of math learning, have a love of the middle schoolers, and are innovative and knowledgeable about math teaching, particularly with Algebra and Pre-Algebra. This position includes a 4-5 class teaching load, attendance at all professional development meetings, and additional responsibilities throughout the year that require attendance at evening and weekend events.
Knowledge and experience with progressive education philosophy and a constructivist pedagogical approach
Ability to create and manifest differentiated, innovative curricula
Expertise in building active, collaborative classroom programs which encourage problem solving, critical thinking skills, and develop a sense of classroom community and trust
Capacity to address the developmental needs of academically motivated middle school students

Qualifications & Skills:
Experience teaching middle schoolers pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry
Educational background and experience in differentiated instruction
Direct experience with middle school math curriculum design
Highly developed sense of integrity, confidentiality, reliability, and accountability
Positive attitude and ability to maintain flexibility with changing needs
Ability to work independently by taking initiative both individually, and as part of a team
A strong role model for professional behavior
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to and work closely with diverse school constituencies
Relevant professional certifications
Master of Arts or Master of Science in math education or related field
Directly accountable to the MS Division Coordinator for the performance of all responsibilities related to the position.
