Compass High School is seeking a Reading Specialist to join our faculty in August for the 2018-19 school year. Compass specializes in the education of students with learning differences. Our school is truly a unique and rewarding place for teachers to work with students with special needs. Compass is a small school with a high level of cohesion among its faculty. Parents are highly involved and supportive.
The successful candidate will be able to teach one section of high school English as well as Resource classes that provide individualized classes in reading, writing and executive functioning. Resource classes are kept very small but the ability to differentiate instruction for a range of abilities is essential. Experience and proficiency in remediation of learning disabilities is necessary. We are looking for a teacher who is creative, who uses multi-sensory teaching techniques, and who is able to maintain a structured learning environment. A California special education teaching credential or a certificate in Educational Therapy is preferred. Experience teaching students with special needs is required.
The successful candidate will also be comfortable collaborating with fellow teachers and administrators and will be someone who is open to feedback. We encourage teachers both to innovate and make use of a high level of autonomy while still maintaining a consistent structure. The ideal candidate should also be someone who is enthusiastic about participating in the community of the school and its initiatives.
