Dean of Students
The Johns Hopkins University for Center Talented Youth (CTY) is currently seeking an academic dean for its commuter program at the Magnolia Science Academy in Venice, California.
The Academic Dean’s Role
A member of the site administrative staff, the academic dean assumes primary responsibility for supervising the academic staff and coordinating the academic program. A CTY academic dean’s role is most similar to a dean of faculty’s as he or she supports and guides 12-24 instructional staff who come from a variety of educational backgrounds and have diverse teaching skills. Through classroom observations and frequent conferences with staff, the academic dean provides feedback and mentoring on teaching strategies and classroom management. The dean also addresses student performance issues and oversees the editing of student evaluations. Finally, he or she furnishes logistical support for field trips, class projects, and supplies, and at some sites supervises an academic dean's assistant
The academic dean works Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Additional hours are required on busy work days, as well as in the evenings and on weekends as needed to complete paperwork and other administrative tasks. In addition, academic dean must arrive earlier and/or depart later to assist with the Before- and After-Care program. The academic dean also works student check-in day on the weekend immediately prior to the start of the session as well as the Saturday at the end of the session.

Experience in a supervisor or administrative role in an educational setting

Venice, CA (The Magnolia Science Academy) / Sessions 1: June 25 - July 21, 2018
Terms of Employment
First-year salary starts at $3,429 for a single session.
Attendance the first weekend in June at an orientation in Baltimore, Friday to Sunday, June 1 to June 3 (no additional compensation, but CTY pays travel expenses and provides room and board)
Telephone and email consultations throughout the year, as needed
