The McGillis School, an established, independent K-8 school in Salt Lake City, Utah has an opening for a Director of Institutional Advancement, beginning July 1, 2018. The Director of Institutional Advancement is an integral part of the senior leadership team and reports to the Head of School.
The Director of Institutional Advancement is a strategic, creative, detail-oriented team player who oversees the operations of the Advancement Office. The Director of Institutional Advancement develops and executes annual giving, manages a comprehensive stewardship program, directs the execution of advancement events, and grows and maintains volunteer relationships. The Director of Institutional Advancement will directly supervise a strong and motivated team comprised of the Advancement Associate, Advancement Services Coordinator, Advancement Assistant, and Communications Specialist. S/he will have excellent relationship-building skills, demonstrated success in managing both programs and people, and a proven ability to communicate effectively and passionately through oral and written communications. The successful applicant will demonstrate a passion for continuous improvement and innovation, hold a genuine interest for working with parents, grandparents, and alumni, and understand the importance of school culture and community.
The ideal candidate must be an experienced fundraiser who will continue to educate the community about philanthropy and will strategize and lead The School’s future fundraising efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Institutional Advancement will:
Identify, research, and spearhead the implementation of a multifaceted fundraising program to support the school’s strategic vision, cultivating a culture of giving and gratitude across all constituencies.
Establish and execute forward-thinking advancement programming that optimally grows the advancement program, including fundraising, leading annual giving, educating the community regarding philanthropy, building alumni engagement, and leading special advancement events.
Collaborate with the admissions office and communications staff to create/produce communication materials to expand and enhance the school’s visibility and reputation.
Enhance existing relationships while building new relationships, systems, and programs that further tap into the generosity and resources of the community, including developing alumni programming.
Cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding potential major gift prospects.
Maintain an advancement database and provide advancement reports as required.
Manage the advancement budget.
Manage and help to grow the School’s endowment.
Support ongoing grants and seek new grants that would benefit our academic program and community.
Maintain a highly collaborative relationship with the head of school and individual board members, including the board’s advancement committee chair, working with them to identify and report on fundraising opportunities.
This is a year-round, full-time, benefited, exempt position. Competitive salary dependent upon qualifications.
