Grey Nun Academy (GNA) seeks an Elementary Classroom Teacher (second grade) who is talented and energetic for the 2018-2019 school year. Teachers at GNA provide the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize student competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth toward a successful and meaningful future. The teacher must be a practicing Catholic as he or she oversees two sacraments for students during the academic year. The second grade teacher works with students in his/her individual, self-contained classroom and collaboratively with the other faculty in our school. GNA students graduate with a love of learning, strong critical thinking abilities, an understanding of important ideas, and a healthy sense of self. Students develop deep respect for their community and for diversity in all its forms.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching all language arts, math science, Religion, and social studies classes, in addition to ‘homeroom’ teacher responsibilities. The Second Grade teacher will be responsible for designing curriculum, planning lessons, and working closely with the Head of School and Dean to ensure alignment of the school’s philosophy in curriculum and practices. Candidates must have superior teaching skills, excellent writing skills and strong verbal communication. The ability to be collaborative, detail-oriented and innovative is essential. Teachers dedicated to meeting the academic and personal needs of the students and collaborating with colleagues and parents are encouraged to apply for this position.
GNA seeks a Teacher with a Bachelors Degree/ higher degree and/or dual active state teacher certification required (private school certification does not meet the requirements for this position). Previous relevant and Catholic school teaching and technology (Google Certification) experience and Responsive Classroom training preferred. Recent graduates are welcome to apply.

Establishing and maintaining classroom expectations that challenges students to strive for excellence in all that they do.
Planning and developing effective lesson plans that cover the curriculum and address students’ interests and needs.
Integrating technology into the curriculum.
Coordinating field trips or arranging for speakers to come into the classroom.
Accurately assessing student learning through formative and summative assessment and effectively adapting instruction based on these assessments.
Keeping accurate records, ensuring that students are progressing and monitoring progress through progress reports and report cards.
Performing supervision duties as assigned.
Meeting with students and parents to discuss any concerns or issues with student progress and learning.
Participating on school-based committees and working with other teachers in the grade level and other departments in the school.
Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
