We are seeking a talented, compassionate, and dynamic Early Childhood Teacher to help us advance our vision of being a recognized leader in early childhood through 8th Grade education. You would work full-time in the Early Learning Center (ELC), which includes Preschool (ages 2.5 – 3), Pre-Kindergarten (ages 4-5), and Kindergarten, (ages 5-6). The current opening is for a Kindergarten teacher. We are looking for someone who can work effectively independently as well as part of a team. We need a leader who understands best practices in teaching Early Childhood Education and who is passionate about teaching to pre-school aged children and enhancing student life. Under minimal supervision, provides an exemplary instructional experience in the classroom for Kindergarten students, and supports students, parents, and other community members in realizing our Guiding Principles. Abides by our Framework for Professional Standards.
Plans and implements a cognitively challenging program with an emphasis on literacy and math, utilizing best early childhood practices and elementary education
Develops and maintains supportive, cooperative relationships with families
Engages in continued professional development in early childhood best practices
Works cooperatively and effectively as a team member and within the context of a continuous program, age 30 months through 8th grade
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field, from a 4-year college or university required
Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred
Washington State Teacher Certification preferred
2+ years of combined teaching experience in an early childhood setting, kindergarten or elementary grades preferred
Experience in developing and writing curriculum
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Expertise in early childhood education, including best early childhood practices
Familiarity with Lucy Calkins' Writers and Readers Workshop, Fountas and Pinnelle's Guided Reading, Math in Focus, Handwriting without Tears, and/or Responsive Classroom is preferred
Experience with Lucy Calkin's Reading and Writing Workshops
Experience with Responsive Classroom, Nurtured Heart, or other positive social emotional classroom management training
Demonstrates a growth mindset and with interest in 21st century teaching
Familiarity with current learning theories and basic principles of human growth and development and ability to consider them in the design and implementation of learning experiences
Knowledge of current trends and research in learning and assessment
Ability to manage the non-instructional human dynamics in the educational setting
Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the children and program
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to maintain confidential information
Ability to work collaboratively in team situations
Ability to work efficiently in a Microsoft Windows environment using Microsoft Office, master common automated systems for record keeping, and learn new technology
Ability to work and communicate well with all levels of faculty and staff
Ability to work and communicate well with students and their parents
Ability to work outside in all weather
Some travel required (field trips)
