NSU University School is a JK-12, college-preparatory school serving approximately 1,800 students on the campus of Nova Southeastern University in South Florida. We are currently seeking a Lower School Music Teacher for the 2018-19 school year.
The Lower School (JK through 5th grade) music program focuses on choral and general music instruction, including skill building around listening, rhythm, notation, movement, music history, improvisation, composition, and performance. Students are exposed to a variety of musical tools designed to foster musical growth, such as Orff instruments, hand percussion, recorders, and stringed instruments. Additionally, the music teacher’s role includes the facilitation of a variety of musical performing groups that rehearse before and after school.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
The desire to foster the joyful exploration of music among children
Confidence to teach multiple ages with varying levels of musical knowledge and ability
The ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment where new ideas are encouraged and embraced
The aptitude to collaboratively integrate curriculum with other subjects
Innovative, organized, collaborative, and able to lead others in a positive direction
Experience leading chorus and/or teaching music and/or leading school shows and performances
Three or more years’ experience teaching students in JK through 5th grades
