The Episcopal School of Baton Rouge seeks a Director of Choral Activities to begin July 2018.
Episcopal, a college preparatory educational community of between 900 and 1,000 students and approximately 170 professionals, includes grades pre-K through 12. The Choral Activities Director’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, directing, managing, and leading a well-balanced upper and middle school program of choral music including performance, music appreciation, harmony and theory. The Director also provides opportunities for choral music students to perform for chapel services, in concerts for the larger school community, and in choral competitions.
Personal and Professional Characteristics
Excellent vocal performance skills and pedagogical skills in music theory and sight reading.
Prior experience working with both middle and high school choirs, teaching music classes and managing co-curricular activities.
Musical theater conducting experience.
Piano proficiency for teaching and rehearsal settings is preferred.
Experience in high level performing ensembles is preferred.
Ability to manage and maintain the choral music budget and music inventory.
Competence with appropriate educational technology.
Interest in and experience with teaching music history (including music history courses related to either music and faith, or world music is an asset).
Organizational and project management skills that include an ability to prioritize tasks and complete projects with accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to collaborate with administrators and colleagues to develop and evolve the choir program as needed to best fit future student needs and applicant’s individual interests and talents.
The position is full-time. An Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in Music (Performance or Education) is preferred, and knowledge of independent schools is desirable.
